Christian Horner’s future in Formula 1 has once again become a major talking point, with the former Red Bull boss continuing to be linked with a possible move to Ferrari. Horner has been away from the Red Bull operation since his departure in 2025, ending a two-decade spell in charge during which the team established itself as one of the sport’s dominant forces. Recent reports have revived the possibility of a move to Maranello, although there is currently no confirmed agreement between Horner and Ferrari.
The Ferrari connection has gained attention partly because of Horner’s desire to find the right project for his return to the paddock. During his time at Red Bull, he helped oversee championship-winning campaigns involving Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, while also playing a major role in building the organisation into a consistent title contender. His experience managing a large F1 operation naturally makes him an attractive figure whenever questions arise about his next career move.
Interestingly, former F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that he personally tried to convince Horner to consider Ferrari after his Red Bull exit. Ecclestone said he had encouraged Horner to pursue an opportunity with the Italian team, while also admitting that he does not know whether Ferrari will ultimately become Horner’s destination. His comments have added fresh fuel to speculation that has circulated around Horner and Ferrari for some time.
However, several factors could determine whether such a move is realistically possible. Ferrari already has Fred Vasseur in charge, and Horner has indicated that he would only return to Formula 1 for a project offering a genuine opportunity to compete at the front. Reports have also suggested that Horner is interested in having significant influence or even an ownership component in his next venture, rather than simply accepting another conventional team principal position.
For now, Ferrari remains one of several possibilities surrounding Horner rather than a confirmed destination. The former Red Bull chief has also been connected with other projects, including an investor group that expressed interest in acquiring a stake in Alpine. Horner himself has said his return would need to involve the “right thing” and a project capable of winning, leaving the door open to further developments as his Formula 1 comeback continues to take shape.
