Despite being away from the track, reports indicated that he continued contributing to Aston Martin’s work from home. The team subsequently confirmed that Newey was still working and had been on the Silverstone campus shortly before the Miami event, suggesting that his responsibilities within the organization had not simply been put on hold.
The timing was particularly significant because Newey had taken on the Aston Martin team principal role for the 2026 season, marking a major new chapter in his Formula 1 career. The team was also dealing with a difficult start to the new regulatory era, with problems surrounding the Honda power unit contributing to a lack of competitiveness.
