LECLERC AND HAMILTON CLEAR THE AIR
Charles Leclerc has revealed that he held private discussions with Lewis Hamilton after their controversial Ferrari clash at the Italian Grand Prix, insisting there is no ongoing feud between the teammates.
The Ferrari pair collided during a tense opening-lap battle at Monza, with Hamilton accusing Leclerc over team radio of pushing him off the circuit. The incident immediately created another layer of pressure inside Ferrari after an already difficult weekend for the Scuderia.
Leclerc later crashed out, bringing his home race to a premature end and triggering a red flag. However, rather than allowing the disagreement to develop into a larger internal conflict, the two Ferrari drivers have now spoken directly about what happened.
LECLERC ADMITS HE WENT TOO FAR
Leclerc has accepted responsibility for his role in the incident, particularly for his actions during the battle through Turn 2.
The Monegasque driver explained that both he and Hamilton were highly motivated and fighting hard, but admitted that he crossed a line he should not have crossed with a teammate.
That admission could prove important for Ferrari. Hamilton has already called for clearer rules of engagement between the two drivers, arguing that the team needs a better framework for handling aggressive internal battles.
Leclerc’s willingness to acknowledge his mistake could help prevent the Monza incident from becoming a recurring source of tension.
PRIVATE TALKS PRODUCED A DIFFERENT PICTURE
According to Leclerc, the conversation between the teammates was much calmer once the emotions of the race had disappeared.
He explained that both drivers were able to tell each other how they viewed the incident and ultimately understood each other’s perspective better after discussing it away from the immediate pressure of competition.
That does not mean they completely agreed on every detail. Instead, it suggests both recognise that incidents like Monza can happen when two highly competitive drivers are fighting in identical machinery.
Leclerc also made it clear that neither he nor Hamilton wants to find themselves in the same situation again.
FERRARI CANNOT AFFORD AN INTERNAL WAR
The timing is crucial for Ferrari.
The Scuderia is already chasing Mercedes in the constructors’ championship, while Hamilton and Leclerc need every available opportunity to score points. Losing results because of an internal battle would only make Ferrari’s challenge more difficult.
Hamilton finished sixth at Monza after recovering from the opening-lap incident, while Leclerc failed to finish following his later crash.
Meanwhile, Kimi Antonelli delivered a spectacular victory for Mercedes from 19th on the grid, further highlighting Ferrari’s disappointing home weekend.
With the Spanish Grand Prix next, Ferrari needs its drivers focused on maximising the car rather than continuing the argument from Monza.
HAMILTON AND LECLERC MUST FIND THE BALANCE
The biggest challenge for Ferrari is not stopping Hamilton and Leclerc from racing each other. Both drivers are expected to fight aggressively, and restricting that competition too heavily could create another problem.
Instead, Ferrari needs clear boundaries that allow both men to race while preventing teammate battles from turning into unnecessary points losses.
Leclerc’s comments suggest that the two drivers understand this. His admission that he did not behave as he should have done as a teammate is a significant step toward repairing the situation.
