LEWIS HAMILTON BREAKS SILENCE ON ESTEBAN OCON’S HAAS EXIT WITH EMOTIONAL MESSAGE AS F1 FUTURE COMES UNDER THREAT

Lewis Hamilton has delivered a powerful message of support for Esteban Ocon following the Frenchman’s unexpected removal from the Haas line-up at the Mexican Grand Prix, with the Ferrari driver describing his fellow competitor as one of the nicest and most talented people in Formula 1.

Ocon’s situation has become one of the biggest talking points of the Mexico weekend. After being replaced by reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa following an internal disagreement, questions have emerged about whether the Frenchman will return to the Haas cockpit before the end of the 2026 season.

Hamilton, however, has made it clear that he believes Ocon deserves to remain in Formula 1. His comments are particularly significant because they come from a driver who understands the pressures, politics and difficult decisions that shape careers at the highest level of motorsport.

HAMILTON REVEALS PRIVATE CONVERSATION WITH OCON

Hamilton revealed that he approached Ocon during the United States Grand Prix weekend in Austin to discuss his difficult situation.

Ocon confirmed that the seven-time world champion had made an effort to speak with him privately.

“We chatted a little bit about the situation and how things went, but nothing really to say much more,” Ocon explained.

Hamilton later revealed why he chose to speak with Ocon in person rather than simply sending a message.

“I thought it would be better when I get to see him in person,” the Ferrari driver said.

That personal gesture appears to have meant something to Ocon, who has been dealing with uncertainty surrounding his future after Haas confirmed plans to move in a different direction for 2027.

HAMILTON CALLS OCON ONE OF F1’S NICEST DRIVERS

Hamilton did not hold back when discussing his opinion of the Frenchman.

“I think he’s one of the nicest guys here. He’s always been so. He’s a charming young lad.”

He also acknowledged that Ocon’s journey through Formula 1 may not have been easy, although he admitted he did not know all the challenges the Haas driver had experienced behind the scenes.

Most importantly, Hamilton described Ocon as a very talented driver and expressed sadness at the possibility of losing him from the grid.

“It’s sad to see him leave because I think he’s a very, very talented driver, and I think he deserves to be here.”

Those words carry weight coming from a seven-time world champion who has competed alongside some of the biggest names in the sport.

OCON’S HAAS SITUATION TAKES ANOTHER DRAMATIC TURN

Ocon’s removal from the Mexican Grand Prix came after a reported disagreement over tyre strategy during second practice.

His race engineer, Laura Mueller, instructed him to use medium tyres during a race-simulation run, but Ocon wanted to use soft tyres instead.

The situation was followed by Haas announcing that reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa would replace him for the remainder of the weekend.

Team principal Ayao Komatsu confirmed that Ocon was not ill but declined to provide a detailed explanation for the decision.

Ocon subsequently released a statement acknowledging that a disagreement had taken place while firmly rejecting allegations of physical violence.

The uncertainty surrounding the incident has left his immediate future unclear.

OCON INSISTS HIS PERFORMANCE IS NOT THE PROBLEM

Despite the difficult circumstances, Ocon remains convinced that he belongs in Formula 1.

The Frenchman pointed to his achievements throughout his racing career, arguing that he has demonstrated his ability across multiple categories.

“As I said, I deserve to be here in F1.”

He also insisted that the reasons behind his uncertain 2027 future are not related to his performance.

Ocon’s comments reveal how determined he remains to continue racing at the highest level, even as opportunities become increasingly limited.

HAMILTON’S MESSAGE COULD MEAN MORE THAN JUST SUPPORT

Hamilton’s intervention is an important moment for Ocon, but it does not change the reality of the situation.

The Frenchman still needs a competitive opportunity, and public support from another driver cannot guarantee him a place on the grid.

There is also an interesting connection to Hamilton’s own experience at Mercedes, where he witnessed the pressure surrounding driver selection and the arrival of George Russell as his teammate.

For Ocon, the priority now is finding a way to keep his Formula 1 career alive.

Hamilton’s message offered encouragement at a difficult moment, but the biggest decision will ultimately come from the teams looking to finalise their 2027 line-ups.

One thing is clear from Hamilton’s comments: he does not believe Ocon’s Formula 1 story should end here.
