Laurent Mekies Reportedly Wanted By Alpine As Ferrari Exit Claims Emerge

Fresh speculation surrounding Laurent Mekies has sent shockwaves through the Formula 1 paddock, with reports claiming that Alpine has made an approach for the experienced Frenchman. However, there is an important detail to clarify: Mekies is currently Red Bull’s team principal, not Ferrari’s. He previously held a senior role at Ferrari, serving as Sporting Director and later Racing Director before leaving the Scuderia in 2023.

According to the latest report circulating, Alpine has already put an offer on the table for Mekies as it continues to strengthen its Formula 1 operation. If the approach develops into a serious agreement, it would represent another major move in a career that has already taken Mekies through several influential positions in the sport. His experience includes work with the FIA, Ferrari and Racing Bulls before he replaced Christian Horner as Red Bull team principal in 2025.

Mekies’ current position at Red Bull makes the reported approach particularly significant. He inherited one of the biggest jobs in Formula 1 and has been responsible for guiding the team through a major technical transition, including the arrival of Red Bull Ford Powertrains under the 2026 regulations. F1’s official coverage has highlighted the scale of the challenge facing Mekies as Red Bull adapts to its new power-unit project and a dramatically different competitive landscape.

For Alpine, attracting a figure with Mekies’ background would fit its broader push to make Formula 1 a central part of the brand’s future. Alpine has confirmed that it intends to focus its motorsport resources on Formula 1 while ending its World Endurance Championship programme after the 2026 season. That strategic decision underlines the importance the manufacturer places on building its F1 operation, potentially making experienced leadership figures especially valuable.

At this stage, the reported Alpine offer should be treated as unconfirmed speculation, and there is no official announcement that Mekies is leaving Red Bull. Nevertheless, the claim is likely to generate considerable attention because of his previous Ferrari connection and his current position at one of Formula 1’s most powerful teams. If Alpine genuinely wants to secure his services, any potential move would become one of the most intriguing management developments of the 2026 season.
