ISACK HADJAR SUMMONED BY FIA AFTER SHOCK PADDOCK INCIDENT WITH FAN AT MEXICAN GRAND PRIX

Isack Hadjar has found himself at the centre of a fresh Formula 1 controversy after being summoned to face the FIA stewards over an alleged misconduct incident in the Mexican Grand Prix paddock. The Red Bull driver is under scrutiny following the circulation of footage appearing to show him pushing away a fan who approached him for a selfie.

The incident reportedly happened as Hadjar was walking towards the garage following the opening practice session. A fan approached the Frenchman, apparently attempting to put an arm around him and take a photograph. Hadjar reacted by pushing the individual away, with the exchange captured on video and subsequently shared across social media.

The footage quickly attracted attention, dividing opinion among Formula 1 followers. While some criticised the driver’s physical reaction, others argued that fans should respect a driver’s personal space and should not attempt to touch someone without permission.

FIA STEWARDS WANT ANSWERS FROM HADJAR

The FIA has officially summoned Hadjar over what it described as “misconduct relating to an incident in the Formula 1 paddock today”.

According to the summons reported by The Race, Hadjar was instructed to appear before the stewards at 10:15am local time on Saturday, October 31, alongside a representative of Red Bull.

However, an important detail remains unclear: the FIA’s summons does not explicitly identify the fan encounter as the reason for the investigation. Although the timing and circulating footage have connected the two events in public discussion, the precise circumstances must still be established by the stewards.

The hearing will give Hadjar an opportunity to explain what happened and provide his account of the confrontation.

WHY THE INCIDENT HAS SPARKED A DEBATE

Formula 1 drivers regularly encounter fans in the paddock, particularly during race weekends when spectators with special access can get close to teams and competitors.

Photographs, autographs and brief interactions have become part of the sport’s growing commercial and entertainment appeal. However, that access does not mean drivers automatically surrender their right to personal space.

Hadjar’s reaction has therefore raised two separate questions. Did the fan cross a boundary by attempting to put an arm around the driver without permission? And was Hadjar’s physical response appropriate under the circumstances?

Those questions are important because the available footage does not necessarily reveal everything that happened before the moment was recorded.

WHAT PUNISHMENT COULD HADJAR FACE?

The FIA International Sporting Code contains provisions covering misconduct and behaviour considered damaging to the interests and values of motorsport.

The applicable rules can allow financial penalties, with the FIA’s regulations providing for fines of up to €5,000 in certain circumstances and up to €20,000 in other cases. More serious offences can potentially attract stronger sanctions.

However, no punishment has been confirmed in Hadjar’s case. The stewards must first examine the circumstances, consider the driver’s explanation and determine whether a breach occurred.

It would therefore be premature to assume that Hadjar will receive a fine or any sporting penalty.

ANOTHER DISTRACTION FOR RED BULL IN MEXICO

The controversy comes during an already eventful Mexican Grand Prix weekend for Red Bull.

Hadjar needs to concentrate on his performance while the team manages the wider pressure of a competitive season. Any additional distraction away from the track is unlikely to be welcomed, particularly with qualifying and the Grand Prix approaching.

The outcome of the FIA hearing could also influence how the incident is discussed throughout the weekend.

For now, the key question is whether the stewards believe Hadjar’s actions crossed the line under the FIA’s rules. The driver deserves an opportunity to explain his side, while the fan’s personal space and safety also remain important considerations.

One thing is certain: a brief paddock encounter has developed into a significant talking point at the Mexican Grand Prix, and the FIA’s decision will determine what happens next.
