BREAKING: NIKITA MAZEPIN LINKED WITH SHOCK RETURN TO FORMULA 1 AS ESTEBAN OCON’S HAAS FUTURE ENDS

Esteban Ocon’s Formula 1 future has taken a major turn after Haas confirmed that the Frenchman will leave the team at the end of the 2026 season, opening up a seat for next year’s campaign. (Reuters)

OCON’S HAAS EXIT IS NOW OFFICIAL

Ocon joined Haas for the 2025 season after leaving Alpine and has completed two seasons with the American team. However, his position had been under increasing scrutiny throughout 2026, particularly as teammate Oliver Bearman established himself as the stronger points scorer.

Ocon had already described himself as a free agent for 2027 before Haas officially confirmed the split. He also made clear that his intention was to remain in Formula 1 despite the uncertainty surrounding his next move. (Formula 1® – The Official F1® Website)

Haas subsequently confirmed that Ocon will depart when the 2026 championship concludes.

COULD MAZEPIN REALLY RETURN?

The image circulating online claims that former Haas driver Nikita Mazepin will replace Ocon in 2027.

That would represent one of the most unexpected driver comebacks in recent F1 history. Mazepin raced for Haas during the 2021 season before losing his seat ahead of the following campaign.

However, there is currently no reliable confirmation that Haas has selected Mazepin as Ocon’s replacement. Recent reporting from Formula 1 and other established motorsport outlets has instead identified several candidates being considered for the vacant seat, including Ferrari-backed Rafael Camara, Leonardo Fornaroli, Ryo Hirakawa and Haas reserve Jack Doohan. HAAS HAS BEEN TESTING OTHER OPTIONS

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu previously indicated that the team had been evaluating multiple drivers through testing programmes as it considered its 2027 line-up.

Rafael Camara has emerged as one of the names most strongly connected with the seat. RACER reported that the Brazilian was the frontrunner for Ocon’s position, while Formula 1 also highlighted him among the leading candidates. (RACER)

That makes the Mazepin claim particularly noteworthy—but it should currently be treated as unconfirmed speculation rather than an official signing.

A MAZEPIN RETURN WOULD BE A HUGE STORY

If Mazepin were genuinely to return, it would create a remarkable second chapter in his F1 career.

His first Haas campaign came alongside Mick Schumacher in 2021, but he was unable to continue into 2022. A comeback would therefore mean returning to the grid after several years away from Formula 1.

For now, though, Haas has only confirmed the departure of Ocon. The identity of his replacement remains a separate question.

THE 2027 HAAS SEAT IS NOW ONE OF F1’S BIGGEST TALKING POINTS

Ocon’s exit leaves Haas with an important decision as the team prepares for the next stage of its development.

Bearman’s position is also yet to be formally announced, while Haas has been assessing several alternatives for the other seat.

So while the claim that Nikita Mazepin will replace Ocon is generating attention, the confirmed news is Ocon’s departure—not Mazepin’s return. The Haas seat remains a major piece of the 2027 driver-market puzzle.
