Williams have unveiled a striking one-off livery for the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix as Formula 1 prepares to return to Madrid. The special design pays tribute to the team’s history, drawing inspiration from the colours and appearance of its championship-winning FW07C from 1981, the last Williams car to race in the Spanish capital.
The new livery features a combination of white, green and navy blue, reflecting the colours used on the historic FW07C driven by Alan Jones and Carlos Reutemann at Madrid’s Circuito de Jarama. The design will be carried by both Williams cars throughout the Spanish Grand Prix weekend at the new 22-turn Madring circuit.
Williams say the special edition reflects the team’s desire to use lessons from its past as motivation for its current push toward the front of the Formula 1 grid. According to the team, the same values of innovation, accuracy and teamwork that shaped the FW07C continue to influence the development of its modern FW48.
The livery was officially presented during a Fan Zone event at Madrid’s Plaza De Callao, with Spanish driver Carlos Sainz taking part in the unveiling. Team Principal James Vowles said the design represents the connection between Williams’ history at Jarama and the team they are building today, with greater collaboration, technological progress and creativity.
The Spanish Grand Prix will be particularly significant for Sainz, who will make his 13th appearance at his home race but his first in Madrid, the city where he was born and began his racing journey. Sainz and Alex Albon will also be aiming to end Williams’ eight-race run without points. The team currently sits ninth in the Constructors’ Championship with 11 points, five behind Audi, after finishing an impressive fifth last
season.
