But the numbers were only part of the story.
The game also featured another tense moment between Clark and DiJonai Carrington, adding another chapter to a rivalry that has repeatedly generated controversy around the Fever. Carrington appeared to mock Clark for flopping after contact, and Clark responded moments later by knocking down a step-back three-pointer to give Indiana a 36-34 lead.
Rather than allowing the exchange to derail her, Clark appeared to use the moment as fuel. She scored 37 points, hit eight threes and recorded 10 assists while leading Indiana to a 23-point victory. The Fever also eliminated Chicago from playoff contention with the result, further strengthening their position in the postseason race.
Most importantly, Clark remained productive when the game was still competitive. Indiana entered the fourth quarter holding only a six-point advantage before completely taking over, outscoring Chicago 30-13 in the final period.
THE FEVER ARE BECOMING A SERIOUS PROBLEM
Indiana’s rise is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
The Fever now sit firmly in third place in the playoff standings, and performances like this suggest that their postseason ceiling could be significantly higher than many expected.
Clark’s return to dominant form is particularly important. When she is simultaneously creating for teammates and shooting at this level from deep, Indiana becomes extremely difficult to defend because opponents have to account for both her scoring range and her playmaking ability.
That combination was on full display against Chicago.

The Carrington storyline will inevitably generate the headlines, but reducing the game to another episode of their rivalry would undersell what Clark accomplished.
The bigger story is that Clark responded to a heated moment with arguably her most destructive offensive performance of the season.

That is the kind of response that changes the conversation from controversy to basketball.
And with the playoffs approaching, Indiana may be entering October with exactly the kind of momentum that makes the rest of the league uncomfortable.
