Tragedy Strikes Texas A&M Football: Coach Mike Elko Mourns Personal Loss Amidst Team Turmoil

Reports have emerged indicating that Coach Elko’s wife and unborn child have tragically passed away. Blaise Taylor, a newly appointed analyst and son of associate head coach Trooper Taylor, was arrested in March 2024 on charges of first-degree murder. He is accused of fatally poisoning his girlfriend, Jade Benning, and their unborn child in February 2023. Benning, who was five months pregnant, died on March 6, 2023, her 25th birthday, after being hospitalized for what Taylor reported as an allergic reaction. The unborn child died two days after Benning’s hospitalization.

At the time of the incident, Taylor was working in the Tennessee Titans’ scouting department. Following the deaths, he moved to Utah, serving as a defensive analyst for Utah State University’s football team during the 2023 season. In March 2024, he joined Texas A&M’s athletic department as an assistant. His father, Trooper Taylor, continues to serve as the associate head coach and running backs coach for Texas A&M.

Coach Mike Elko, who has been at the helm of the Aggies since 2024, is now facing immense personal and professional challenges. The university community stands in solidarity with him, offering thoughts and prayers during this period of mourning and uncertainty.
