Ralf Schumacher Doesn’t Like What He’s Seeing from Lewis Hamilton

Former Formula 1 driver and Sky Sports Germany pundit Ralf Schumacher hasn’t been holding back lately, especially when it comes to Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion’s recent performances—and perhaps more notably, his body language—have drawn some pointed criticism from Schumacher, who believes something isn’t quite right with the British driver.

Speaking on Hamilton’s current form, Schumacher expressed concern that the Mercedes star is no longer showing the same fire and focus that once defined his dominance in the sport. “Lewis just doesn’t look like himself out there,” Schumacher said. “There’s a lack of sharpness in his racing, and you can even see it in how he carries himself on and off the track.”

Hamilton, who is set to leave Mercedes at the end of the 2025 season to join Ferrari, has been outperformed in recent races by his younger teammate George Russell. While some chalk it up to Mercedes’ ongoing struggles with car performance, Schumacher suggests Hamilton’s motivation could be dipping as his career enters a new phase.

“There’s no doubt he’s still one of the greats,” Schumacher admitted, “but this isn’t the Hamilton who used to squeeze every last tenth out of the car. Maybe he’s already mentally checking out of the Mercedes project.”

This isn’t the first time Schumacher has questioned Hamilton’s hunger. Over the last couple of seasons, he’s hinted that Lewis might be more focused on his ventures outside of Formula 1—fashion, music, and activism—than the racing itself.

As Hamilton gears up for his high-profile switch to Ferrari, fans and critics alike are watching closely. Will the new chapter reignite the fire in one of the sport’s greatest champions, or is Ralf Schumacher right to be concerned?

One thing’s certain: all eyes will be on Lewis to prove the doubters wrong in what could be one of the most scrutinized seasons of his illustrious career.
