The New York Jets put the former All-American from Alabama on injured reserve…See Details Below.
Linebacker C.J. Mosley of the New York Jets will miss at least four more games after missing the previous five due to a neck ailment.
Jeff Ulbrich, the Jets’ interim head coach, said on Friday afternoon that C.J. Mosley would be placed on injured leave today. “A difficult choice made by a very arrogant, talented athlete, leader—all of those things for us. Although it was a difficult choice for him, it is the best one for both our organization and him.
By going on injured reserve, Mosley will have to spend at least four games on the sidelines, and with only five games remaining on New York’s regular-season schedule and the Jets at 3-9, it seems likely that the linebacker will not play again in 2024.
Mosley’s season has been marred by injuries. In New York’s first game, he made nine tackles and played 63 defensive snaps. After missing three entire games due to a toe injury, he has subsequently played 47 snaps in three games.
Following the season, Mosley and Jamien Sherwood, his injury replacement, may have to make a choice for the Jets. Sherwood, a former Auburn standout who will be a free agent in March, leads New York with 107 tackles in 2024.
Mosley’s 2025 contract expiration will contribute $12.784 million against the Jets’ salary cap. However, releasing him would come with a $16.434 million cap hit, making it even more costly.
Mosley played linebacker at Theodore High School and was named to the All-State team twice. He was named a Parade All-American in 2009 and received the Class 6A Lineman of the Year Award.
Mosley won the Butkus Award as the top linebacker in the country and the SEC Defensive Player of the Year Award while he was at Alabama. He was a unanimous All-American in 2013 and a consensus All-American in 2012. Mosley represented the Crimson Tide on two national championship teams. As the 17th choice in the 2014 NFL Draft, Mosley made his NFL debut.
