NASCAR President makes his feelings clear on Micheal Jordan’s team.
Despite its ongoing litigation, NASCAR President Steve Phelps acknowledged that it was “pretty cool” to watch Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing squad fight for the Cup Series title.
Thirteen of the fifteen teams accepted the charter agreement that NASCAR provided in September, just before the playoffs started; only 23XI and Front Row Motorsports declined. Front Row Motorsports and 23XI Racing claimed that NASCAR was acting as “monopolistic bullies” in the revenue-sharing arrangement between its teams and the governing body.
According to Jordan’s claim, NASCAR engaged in anticompetitive behavior that hindered the sport’s ability to compete fairly and appropriately. Jordan and Denny Hamlin, co-owners of 23XI, have a tense history with France, but Phelps seemed to make amends by shedding attention on the team’s quick rise in the sport.
Phelps said, “The close finishes, that was really cool,” when asked by The Athletic if he had any highlights from the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season. I believe that our fans have grown accustomed to the ongoing schedule innovation, and in 2025, you’ll witness it once more. The fact that 23XI went for a championship so early in their racing career is really awesome.”And one of the things I’m most pleased of is that, when it comes to viewership, we began off with a minus-27 (percent) rating and managed to end up with positive statistics. That, in my opinion, speaks volumes about the size of the fan base, the popularity of the sport, and its location.
Their partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing expedited the procedure and prepared the ground for a successful 2024 season. Tyler Reddick achieved a remarkable feat for a squad that made its debut in 2020 when he won the regular series championship and advanced to Championship 4 at Phoenix Raceway.
