The Alabama Crimson Tide community is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Khyree Jackson, a former standout cornerback who made significant contributions to our football program. Khyree’s talent, dedication, and passion for the game left an indelible mark on the team and its supporters.
Khyree Jackson joined the Alabama Crimson Tide as a promising cornerback, showcasing exceptional skills and a deep understanding of the game. His tenure with the team was marked by pivotal plays and unwavering commitment, earning him respect from coaches, teammates, and fans alike. His journey with Alabama was a testament to his resilience and determination to excel at the highest levels of college football.
After his time with the Crimson Tide, Khyree transferred to the University of Oregon, where he continued to demonstrate his athletic prowess. His outstanding performances caught the attention of NFL scouts, leading to his selection by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2024 NFL Draft. Khyree’s ascent to the professional ranks was a source of pride for all who had witnessed his development from a collegiate athlete to an NFL player.
Tragically, on July 8, 2024, Khyree’s life was cut short in a car accident in Maryland. He was traveling with two former high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytto, when their vehicle was struck by another car attempting to overtake them. The collision resulted in fatal injuries for all three young men. Authorities indicated that alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the accident, and charges against the other driver were pending at the time.
The news of Khyree’s untimely passing sent shockwaves through the football community. Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed his grief, stating, “I am absolutely crushed by this news. Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility. His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him.” He further emphasized Khyree’s potential, noting, “In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more … .”
Khyree Jackson’s legacy at the University of Alabama is one of excellence and dedication. He exemplified the spirit of the Crimson Tide, both on and off the field.
