Lewis Hamilton Tells Ferrari Boss Fred Vasseur to ‘Calm Down’ Amid Miami GP Frustrations

At the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, tensions flared within the Ferrari team as Lewis Hamilton expressed his frustration over strategic decisions during the race. The seven-time world champion, who joined Ferrari this season, was particularly upset about being held up behind teammate Charles Leclerc despite having a faster pace on medium tyres. Hamilton sarcastically remarked over the team radio, “have a tea-break while you’re at it,” highlighting his dissatisfaction with the delayed team orders .

Eventually, Hamilton was allowed to pass Leclerc, but the advantage was short-lived. After failing to pull away significantly, the team reversed the positions, prompting Hamilton to quip if he should also let Carlos Sainz, who was closing in, pass as well. Despite a late-race collision with Sainz, Hamilton managed to finish eighth, while Leclerc secured seventh place .

Post-race, Hamilton stood by his radio comments, emphasizing his competitive nature and desire for optimal team performance. He stated that such high-pressure situations naturally lead to sharp exchanges and that he and team principal Fred Vasseur reconciled shortly after the race . Vasseur acknowledged Hamilton’s frustrations, attributing them to his champion’s drive to win, and maintained that the team’s decisions adhered to their established protocols .

This incident underscores the challenges Ferrari faces in managing two top-tier drivers and making swift strategic decisions during races. As the season progresses, the team will need to address these internal dynamics to enhance their performance and capitalize on their drivers’ capabilities.
