Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed taking on life as face of the program…

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Several days before the Texas A&M took Kyle Field for the 2025 Maroon and White game, Marcel Reed was hanging out at linebacker Taurean York’s house, chatting about life as the anointed Aggie starting quarterback.

It’s a role that is somewhat familiar, having played 14 career games in two seasons with the Aggies. And yet, so much is new as he enters his first season as the presumed starter for the team.

York, a self-proclaimed future coach, gave him some advice in the moment.

“Well, welcome to it,” York said he told Reed. “You’re the face of the team. Now, you’re always going to be in media. People are always going to want [autographs]…. That’s just a life that comes with begin the quarterback at Texas A&M. Just take it as a blessing man. I know it’s a lot and it’s a lot on your shoulders, but that’s what you want. So, get bigger shoulders.”

Saturday, as Reed took part in his third spring game in Aggieland, his shoulders appeared broader – both physically and mentally.

Yes, Reed has put on about seven pounds of muscle – in route to a goal of 195 lbs. before the season begins. But it’s how Reed now walks with his shoulders squarely back that has caught the attention of his teammates.

“It’s just the confidence,” cornerback Will Lee III said of his development. “I talk to the O-Lines about how they feel about him and they say, ‘It’s different. He’s back there. He’s confident. He knows what he’s doing. He’s leading those guys.”
