Denis Ciobotariu, a 26-year-old Romanian defender, has recently signed a contract with Rapid București, effective from the summer of 2025. Currently playing for Sepsi OSK, Ciobotariu has expressed his eagerness to join Rapid earlier, but negotiations between the clubs have faced challenges. Sepsi proposed a deal involving a transfer fee and the permanent move of Omar El Sawy, currently on loan from Rapid, but Rapid declined due to additional financial obligations to El Sawy’s former club, Csikszereda. Consequently, Ciobotariu will remain with Sepsi until his contract concludes in the summer.
In his statement, Ciobotariu emphasized his enthusiasm about the move, highlighting Rapid’s rich history and passionate fanbase. He also expressed his anticipation to work again with coach Marius Șumudică, under whom he previously played at CFR Cluj. Ciobotariu believes that joining Rapid will be a significant step forward in his career, both financially and professionally, and sees it as an opportunity to enhance his prospects of being selected for the national team.
Denis Ciobotariu is the son of former Romanian international and current football coach Liviu Ciobotariu. Throughout his career, he has played for several Romanian clubs, including Dinamo București, CFR Cluj, and FC Voluntari. His experience and versatility as a defender are expected to be valuable assets for Rapid București in the upcoming seasons.
