During the playoff run, the Packers are expected to sever ties with their 25-year-old starter.

With Jordan Love at quarterback, the Green Bay Packers are having yet another fantastic season. If they can defeat the New Orleans Saints (5-9) on Monday Night Football, they will be 10-4 and close to securing a postseason berth.

The Packers were attempting to address a problem that had been revealed during the NFC championship game the season before by picking Eric Stokes out of Georgia in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The Green Bay defense’s hopes of mounting a comeback and winning the Super Bowl were dashed in that game when Tom Brady scored three touchdowns against them in the first thirty-two minutes:

However, it has never truly worked out. After a very strong debut season, Stokes has been out for the past three years, primarily due to foot/ankle and hamstring ailments, while Alexander has recently struggled to stay fit.

Although Stokes has played 14 games this season, it is evident that injuries have kept him from becoming the player the Packers had thought he would be. He has played 12 games in the previous two seasons.

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman, a team insider, claims that the Packers have no chance of bringing Stokes back. Given that Valentine is expected to return next season, he was questioned in a mailbag this week about why the Packers don’t use him more than Stokes.

On Stokes, the keg has been tapped clean. It’s true,” Schneidman wrote. You won’t be playing people full-time to be ready for the future when you’re in the middle of a playoff chase, so I don’t think Valentine is a stud just yet. For whatever reason, coaches fail to discern a clear superior in the conflict.

I think Stokes performed admirably against the Seahawks. He will never re-sign in free agency, but the Packers lack a wealth of veteran players in the absence of Bullard and Alexander.
