Braves Urged To Steal $119 Million Infielder From Astros In Blockbuster Move.

Willy Adames, the free agency shortstop for the Milwaukee Brewers, was reportedly a target for the Atlanta Braves, but Atlanta has fallen short. Adames and the San Francisco Giants have reached an agreement on a roughly $200 million contract.

Orlando Arcia’s problems peaked in 2024, therefore Atlanta will have to look for alternative infielders to fill the shortstop position. The Braves could look at some unusual players to fill this position, albeit there isn’t an ideal fit.

Christopher Kline of FanSided has a novel concept. Kline recently recommended Atlanta to sign Alex Bregman, a free agent from the Houston Astros. According to Spotrac, Bregman is expected to receive a four-year, $119 million contract in free agency, but the actual amount will likely be closer to $200 million.

Alex Bregman chances of returning to Astros as free agent

“We should preface this by saying it almost definitely won’t happen, but there’s a strong case for Alex Bregman as a top Braves target,” Kline stated. “Be cautious since his price tag might equal or surpass Adames’ $182 million, but Bregman is a two-time Word Series champion with over ten years of postseason experience. That should be alluring to an Atlanta club hoping to reach the summit.

Positions are clearly the issue here. Although Bregman isn’t a shortstop, he is apparently amenable to switching positions if the situation calls for it. Ozzie Albies might go to shortstop and Bregman could take his place at second base in Atlanta.I’m not sure if the Braves’ $200 million commitment to Bregman, who is already 30 years old, is worth it given their shortstop issue. After Bregman, I think the Braves won’t be able to compete because teams like the Astros, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, and New York Mets will be too aggressive.
